A hard-working MP is worth the expense
By Mark Penninga, Vancouver Sun
Russ Hiebert, Nathan Cullen and other MPs are getting flak for their work-related expenses. Canada wants MPs who have personal integrity and a commitment to their families and who are well connected to their ridings. This comes with an expense.
Having interned with an MP in Ottawa, I saw how hard many of our MPs work, sacrificing their time and family life. Most people would never be able to do the work they have to do and put up with the complaints they get for trying to do their job.
Is this the thanks we give them? If we are concerned about waste, we should look at ourselves: a welfare nation that keeps demanding more.
