Donaldson elected head of economic committee

(SMITHERS, BC) – B.C.‘s Official Opposition filled several vacancies on the caucus executive this week, with Doug Donaldson voted to the position of Chair of the Sustainable Economic Policy Committee by his NDP MLA colleagues.

“This position is important in setting an agenda for economic initiatives that make sense for BC’s rural and urban areas,” said Donaldson.

The chair position means the Stikine MLA joins the caucus executive that coordinates the overall direction and strategy for the 34 Official Opposition members.

“My caucus colleagues have many good ideas about economic development that work for people and communities in the north,” said Donaldson. “I’m looking forward to acting on those positive alternatives while holding this Liberal government to account for bad decisions they’ve made for northern and rural communities. I know solutions to our challenges in Stikine are held by the people living here. Collectively, we have the answers.”

In 2007, the BC NDP Convention adopted a resolution embracing ‘Sustainable BC’ and calling for a renewed emphasis on policy proposals that are sustainable over the long-term. The Sustainable Economic Policy Committee that Donaldson was made chair of, uses Sustainable BC principles to evaluate policy proposals. For more on those principles visit:
