As we look over the 2009 fishing season, we are faced with some difficult questions about the future of the wild salmon runs that have sustained this region for generations beyond count.
Conflict and controversy remain as we desperately seek for a common vision and purpose to unify rather than divide the people of the Northwest.
I hope your conference will play a pivotal role in establishing some of the direction needed for regional management, science and monitoring that must be the cornerstone of a better future.
