Cullen takes economic tour to Burns Lake and Fort St. James

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JANUARY 27, 2011

SMITHERSSkeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen takes his third annual economic tour of the riding to Burns Lake and Fort St. James next week.

“We’ve done four western communities and had a fantastic response so far,” Cullen said from Ottawa today. “We’re hearing lots of really creative and solid ideas about moving the economy forward at both the community and regional levels.”

The theme for this year’s economic forums is renewing the Northwest and supporting economic growth. Community leaders work with small groups to discuss how existing and future economic projects of value can be supported by elected officials and residents.

Participants will also explore whether ideas from the forums can be supported by the Renewal Northwest, a non-partisan regional working group founded by Cullen two years ago to identify and assist sustainable development opportunities in Northwest BC.

Everyone is welcome to attend these free forums, which last two hours. The Burns Lake forum is being held 10am to noon on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Heritage Centre, and the Fort St. James forum 3-5pm that day at the Seniors Centre.

Cullen notes a variety of ideas and perspectives are needed to build creative and lasting economic initiatives across the Northwest. For more information please visit www.nathancullen.com/issues/economy.
