Cullen kicks off second riding-wide economic tour
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JANUARY 22, 2010
Office of Nathan Cullen
SMITHERS – Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen will launch his second annual tour on the economy at the end of the month, starting Jan. 31 in Terrace and wrapping up 10 communities later in Haida Gwaii on Feb. 16.
“Last year’s tour was very well attended and generated lots of excellent ideas,” Cullen said. “These meetings absolutely helped to focus our advocacy efforts and make Skeena-Bulkley Valley one of the most highly funded ridings in all of Canada last year.”
Cullen noted the northwest received an allocation of over $60 million in federal funding for a great variety of projects, another $15 million through joint federal and provincial programs, and a commitment for up to $130 million for the Northwest Transmission Line.
“I want to continue hearing from constituents about where we should put our priorities regionally and nationally in today’s new economy,” said Cullen.
The meetings are supported by local Chambers of Commerce, community service groups, First Nations, community colleges, credit unions, economic development agencies, labour councils and non-profit organizations.
“Don’t let Stephen Harper put democracy totally on pause during prorogation.” Cullen said. “Come out to help shape the kind of economic development you want to see in your backyard.”
