New Democrats to present action plan to address disappearing salmon stocks
OTTAWA - With years of ignoring the crisis of declining salmon stocks, and the disappearance of 11 million salmon from the Fraser River this year alone, the Harper Government must take immediate action to protect wild BC salmon.
On Friday, New Democrat Western Fisheries and International Trade Critic Peter Julian (Burnaby –New Westminster) and Natural Resources critic Nathan Cullen (Skeena Bulkley Valley) will hold a press conference on British Columbia’s salmon crisis and present an action plan and emergency measures to help save the wild salmon.
The wild salmon fishery generates $1.6 billion in revenue for coastal communities and employs 52,000 on the B.C. coast.
