All ideas welcome as Cullen launches economic tour across riding

SMITHERS – Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen will kick off a cross-constituency tour on the economy next week to hear from riding residents about how to put the northwest and the country on the path toward economic recovery.
“Critical decisions are being made by government around the January 27 federal budget,” Cullen said. “It’s important that everyday voices inform both the decision-making and the budget debate.
“I’ll take the ideas from my conversations with constituents from Fort St. James to the Queen Charlottes and put them right on the desks of the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister.”
Cullen noted the northwest has learned many hard lessons about economic crisis and community survival with the significant downturns in major resource industries across the riding over the last decade.
“We’re fighters and we’re ready to take advantage of government investment that will put people back to work and improve our public and social infrastructures.”
Cullen’s economic tour starts January 14 in Smithers and ends 10 days later on the Queen Charlottes. The meetings are supported by local Chambers of Commerce, community service groups, First Nations, community colleges, credit unions, economic development agencies, labour councils and non-profit organizations.
“Everything is on the table, we need to think creatively with wide-open minds,” Cullen said.
“Everyone has important contributions to make to these conversations and I’m looking forward to hearing some great ideas.”
